The vet will ensure that the bitch hasn't retained any puppies or placentas and that the puppies are in good health. You especially want to check for cleft palates as these puppies probably won't survive and should be euthanized now.

POST PARTUM IS NO JOKE, ITS LIKE DEPRESSION BASICALLY,.... LEADS TO LOSS OF APPETITE, WHICH MEANS NO NUTRIENTS FOR THE PUPS IF MOM AINT EATING,......NOT GOOD. DON'T OVERLOOK WHAT YOU THINK ARE THE SIMPLER TOPICS IN THIS GAME....

Amoxicillin (fish mox) is more for your major surgeries, infections etc and is able to penetrate Gram-positive and some Gram-negative bacteria. Amoxicllin is used in thetreatment of a number of infections including: acute otitis media, streptococcal pharyngitis, pneumonia, skin infections, urinary tract infections, salmonella, lyme disease, and chlamydia infections. 10 mg per pound of dog, given every 8 to 12 hours, 7-10 days.

MAKE AMOXI-DROPS - Mix (1) 250mg capsule w/ 10cc warm water. 1cc per 2.5 lbs 2 times a day for 7-10 days.

Clavamox (Amoxicillin plus Clavulanic acid) - This combination results in an antibiotic with an increased spectrum of action and restored efficacy against amoxicillin-resistant bacteria that produce â-lactamase. Use for the treatment of many different types of bacterial infections such as respiratory, ear, urinary tract and skin infections, among other infections, periodontitis and kennel cough. Dosage - 6.25 mg/lb every 12 hours.

Metronidazole(Flagyl) (fish zole) is for giardia, colits, any bacterial infection, vaginitis. helps with diarhea as well. (((always good to have this on hand)))) Dosage: (11.5mg/lb) I give adult dogs one 250 mg tablet twice per day and puppies (avg. 8-12 lbs) one-half of a 250 mg tablet twice per day for a total of 5 days.

Baytril (Enrofloxacin) - is a synthetic chemotherapeutic agent from the class of the fluoroquinolone carboxylic acid derivatives. It has antibacterial activity against a broad spectrum of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. It is effective against: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter, Campylobacter, Shigella, Salmonella, Aeromonas, Haemophilus, Proteus, Yersinia, Serratia, Vibrio,
Brucella, Chlamydia trachomatis, Staphylococcus, Mycoplasma, Mycobacterium, and Streptococcus. The usual dose of Baytril for dogs is 2.27-9.07mg/pound every 24 hours.
Buy it here: http://www.easterndrugs.com/Pet-Care/Baytril_364.html

CIPROFLOXACIN (fish flox) is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used for the treatment of bacterial infections of the urinary tract, skin, respiratory tract ((URI)) , and wound infections due to susceptible organisms. The usual dose of Ciprofloxacin for dogs is 2.27-6.8mg/pound every 12 hours.

*****Ciprofloxacin, a second generation fluoroquinolone, is a concentration dependent bactericidal agent. It is structurally related to Enrofloxacin (((BAYTRIL))) and has a similar spectrum of activity. Both of these antimicrobials have shown activity against some Gram-positive aerobes and a wide range of Gram-negative bacilli and cocci which include klebsiella, pseudomonas, salmonella, and other organisms such as mycoplasma, staphylococci, and chlamydia. Due to the fluoroquinolones variable activity against most streptococci, as well as their weak activity against many anaerobic bacteria, they are generally not recommended for use in treating infections where these types of microbes are present. Like enrofloxacin, ciprofloxacin is believed to act by inhibiting bacterial DNA-gyrase which prevents DNA supercoiling and DNA synthesis. -When taken orally ciprofloxacin is well absorbed, and although the presence of food in the stomach may delay rate it does not seem to effect its absorption capability. -Both enrofloxacin and ciprofloxacin are well distributed throughout the body, and can be found in small concentrations in the cerebral spinal fluid. -Ciprofloxacin is a metabolite of enrofloxacin, and like enrofloxacin is eliminated by both renal and hepatic mechanisms, as well as in breast milk. -The quinolone class of drugs have been shown to produce erosions of cartilage in weight bearing joints and other signs of arthropathy in immature animals of various species. -The use of fluoroquinolones has not been recommended for initial treatment in pregnant and nursing does, or rats under 4 months due to the risks of cartilage abnormalities (Egerbacher et al., 2000), however, in cases where other antibiotics are not helping, or if the infection is deemed severe, the benefit of using fluoroquinolones (alone or in combination with other compatible antimicrobials) may in fact outweigh the risks.

-Indications

Useful in: respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, and soft tissue injury. Although ciprofloxacin may be used as a substitute when enrofloxacin is not available it should be noted that there are some pharmacologic differences. Notably that ciprofloxacin is less reliably absorbed than enrofloxacin.

I am not a veterinarian and the following is what I use to treat my dogs. Use the following at your on risk! I have been using the following methods for over 10 years.

Worms:

For the removal and control of mature infections of large strongles, pinworms, large roundworms, and small strongyles in dogs and puppies we use PYRANTEL50/Strongid (Pyrantel Pamoate). We give 1 cc per 10 pounds From 2 weeks till 16 weeks and every 2-3 months after that. If worms are seen we give the same dosage for three consecutive days (per Vet).

Giardia:

For the treatment of Giardia I first begin with a 5 day treatment of Panacur C (fenbendazole) 25 mg/lb once daily. I also recommend a 10 day treatment following the Panacur with Metronidazole. The dose I use is 15mg/lbs. of body weight twice a day. You can buy Metronidazole from www.revivalanimal.com under the name fish-zole. Panacur C is also a very effective dewormer.

Coccidia (Coccidiosis):

I use a prevention treatment on all my pups about every two to three weeks until 6 months old. I give them Di-Methox 12.5% solution mixed with Dyne. Di-methox 12.5% is the exact same thing as Albon 12.5%, but is much cheaper. Dyne is a high calorie liquid dietary supplement that will help increase the pups energy much quicker. I mix 5 ounces of Dyne to 4 ounces of Di-Methox 12.5%. This mixture produces the same thing you will get from the vet called Albon 5%, but will be getting it without a prescription and at a much cheaper price. For prevention I give 2.5cc or 1/2 teaspoon per 5 pounds (5 cc/1 teaspoon per 10 pounds) by mouth once a day for 5 days. If a pup has the coccidia he must be treated for 14 to 21 days by giving the same dosage as above.

Vaccines:

We vaccinated our puppies with Duramune 5-way at 8 weeks., 11 weeks, and again at 14 weeks. All dogs will receive a booster shot once a year. 5-way protects against Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus. DO NOT give Chihuahua puppies Corona virus or Lepto, puppies have DIED from severe reactions! There are several places you can buy shots. I buy them from www.revivalanimal.com

HOT SPOTS OR SKIN IRRITATIONS (WITH HAIR LOSS):

For Hot Spots or skin irritations that cause dogs to loose hair we use BETADINE. It absolutely works wonders. You will not find anything in the store that works faster. Usually after a couple of days of treatment you will see improvement. Betadine is cheap (under $15) and a bottle will last you for a long time. We purchase the Betadine from www.countrysupply.com

KENNEL COUGH:

For Kennel cough we use Tetracycline 250 mg. We give 1 capsule per day for 5 days. During the coughing time we also give them Robitussin(DM) Cough Syrup using the children dosage (advised by VET). We usually purchase the Tetracycline from www.vetdepot.com or www.revivalanimal.com

*****If I had to have only one antibiotic in my kit, it would be Cephalexin, because it is good, available, and cheap, and the fish form (Fish-Flex or Cefalexin) can be ordered without a prescription. Cephalexin can get the job done on a bite or laceration about 99% of the time. The only advantage of Clavamox is that it works a bit better on ear infections.

If I had to chose only 2 antibiotics to have in my kit, I would chose Clavamox and Baytril. These 2 drugs are very effective, they're easy to come by, and between them they can handle almost any infection. *****

FLEA Prevention:

You can go to Lowes or anywhere that they sell pesticides(I buy it at Lowes) it's in the garden section and it's in a blue quart plastic bottle labeled Bayer(just like the aspirin company) Advanced 12month tree and shrub insect control concentrate.....turn the bottle to the back side and it should say active ingredient....Imidacloprid 1.47%.. This is the exact same chemical as admire but it is more dilute so we have to put more on the dog. I have been using it for over a year now on my curs and several friends' dogs. This is also the same chemical the vet sales trade name "Advantage"...but it is more dilute than it but way much cheaper. A quart of this cost eighteen bucks and on average you can treat around sixty dogs with the quart. I put fifteen milliliters....15ml on all dogs from 40 to 65 lbs.... 20 ml on 65 to 90 lbs and 25 ml on a dog over 90 lbs. Put it on every dog that you own inside and outside every month. You won't have to spray anything because each dog will become a flea killing machine....Within 24 hours after treating the dog any flea that bites the dog for a month or more will die within a few minutes.....as more eggs hatch and fleas are born they will bite the dog and be dead quick. I have seen massive infestations irradiated by one dog being treated and every flea in their house and outside was dead in four days. Buy this stuff and a 30 ml syringe.... if the dog will lay down squirt it on their bellies and rub it in all over the belly and chest. If the dog won't lay down just start at the base of the tail and apply a strip from there up to their neck and rub it in. The idea is to get as much on their skin as possible because it is absorbed into their bloodstream and within 24 hours it is circulating throughout their body for at least a month. There will be a dry streak down their back when it dry's and the next day if you don't like seeing that then take a spray bottle of water and dampen the streak and rub it in....then even more of the chemical will now get in their bloodstream but it really won't matter cause the fleas are in trouble either way. Try not to bathe the dogs a few days before and a few days after putting this on them.

***MAKE this solution using*** [Dominion 2L 21.4% Imidacloprid 27.5 oz] DILUTE 1 oz with 13.5 oz water and dose as listed above. Buy it at Amazon.com

EAR INFECTION:

ZYMOX Uses a patented LP3 Enzyme System to create a biological system that is effective against a variety of bacterial, fungal and yeast infections in the ear. The 3 enzymes (Lactoperoxidase, Lysozyme and Lactoferrin) react with infectious pus and debris, forming their antimicrobial properties to counteract infections. Using a cleaner prior to use will disrupt this biological system, so the solution acts as an ear cleaner and medication in one daily dose. With no memory, it’s effective against even antibiotic-resistant microorganisms for fast otic treatment. The antibiotic-free formula is safe for use in animals of any age. DOSAGE: Apply liberally in uncleaned ear to fill canal. Gently massage and work into infected area. Wipe to remove excess. Flush ear post-treatment. Treat once a day for 14 days.

FISH FUNGUS"(KETOCONAZOLE).I would give him one tablet a day for 7 days.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heartworm Treatment: (slow-kill treatment method)

I recommend giving weekly ivermectin along with pulsed doxycycline (see the schedule below) for at least a year, or until the dog no longer tests positive for heartworms (note that a dog may test positive for up to six months after the worms are all gone). Three studies used a protocol of ivermectin (Heartgard) given weekly at the normal monthly heartworm preventative dose (6 mcg/kg), combined with doxycycline at the rate of 5 mg/lb/day for weeks 1-6, 10-11, 16-17, 22-25, and 28-33

Most vets recommend using the fast kill method [Immiticide (fast kill)] to treat heartworms, unless the dog’s health will not permit it or the owners cannot afford it. In those cases, or in the case of a very mild infection, the slow kill method may be used instead.
